Autism and Thomas
Until recently, we thought that our son, although he loved trains, was not particularly interested in Thomas the Tank Engine, he seemed to almost instinctively know all their names, but had no great interest in them.
That has all changed of late though, and he is into it big time! He watches video's on you tube of children playing, or of the episodes, and then replicates or takes inspiration from what he has seen in order to recreate, or make something similar himself. It's a kind of learned play. But it's giving him a lot of pleasure, and we finally have something we can hook into... playing with Fabian is not the easiest of things to do, but now it has something of a focus.
Most of the brio track we have bought from car boot sales, and many of the trains too. It's so expensive to buy new, but here is one example of a toy that can be passed on and lasts for years and years...
He's madly into the song Accident's happen from Thomas the Tank engine, and here's the little video we made yesterday...

first post.
I've had my blog page for ages now, and maybe it's time to get going with it!
I love creativity in many forms. Finding things at car boot sales, mostly things that you could never go into a shop and buy, and other times things that can happily live a second life without everyone having to have new things all the time.
I make little films, sometimes for Alice, and sometimes for Fab, other times just for fun. My latest film is of Thomas trains crashing (more about that later).
I love cooking and have a bookshelf full of books which I often look at without making anything at all, so sometimes its the idea of cooking I love!
I have a beautiful garden, although it's probably a bit to big for me to manage... but I have fun trying! the previous occupiers of our home bought it from new (1956) and were fanatical gardeners, but when we bought the house it had become overgrown and outdated. A lot of the work has involved peeling back the layers, and changing things slowly and gradually.
I am married to a photographer (Marcus), and we have two children, Alice and Fab. Alice Jemima is a musician and actually not a child anymore, and Fab is a fun filled kid who happens to be on the autistic spectrum - that bit's worth a mention as it affects our lives in many, many ways. We have to look for creative solutions to everyday situations. Sometimes there's no positive slant to put on it, and those days are the toughest. This September we are all going to Bestival. It's a crazy plan, and I have no idea how it will work. Mmm.
Anyway, I will hang out here, and post things about all of the above!
